TODA KOGYO, CIMA NANOTECH FORM JOINT VENTURE FOR SALES
AND DISTRIBUTION OF NANOMETAL-BASED DISPERSIONS IN JAPAN
HIROSHIMA and SAINT PAUL, Minnesota, USA, September 28, 2004 –Toda Kogyo Corporation (HQ: Hiroshima, CEO: Toshiyuki Toda) and Cima NanoTech Inc. (HQ: Minnesota, USA, CEO: Jon Brodd ) today announced that they have formed a joint venture company, TodaCima NanoTechnology, to sell and distribute nanometal-based dispersions in Japan.
In addition to the joint venture partnership, Toda Kogyo will also manufacture these materials for payment. A pilot plant will become operational by March 2005 to produce materials using the Platform® technology of Cima NanoTech. In early 2006, Toda Kogyo will establish a larger plant capable of producing multiple tons per year of the nanometal dispersions.
The initial focus will be on nanosilver and silver alloy dispersions that will enable manufacturers to increase the performance, value and commercial capabilities of products using conductive inks, conductive coatings and other applications.
For example, nanosilver particles can allow electronic devices, such as integrated circuits and flat panel displays, to be manufactured more efficiently and at higher value. The devices themselves can become smaller, thinner and higher in density.
Conventional printing of electronic devices, using silver paste, can require very high heat treatment to achieve high conductivity, and the line width typically is limited to 50 micrometers. TodaCima’s nanosilver and silver alloy dispersions, with high metal loading and printable viscosities, require less than 300 degrees centigrade (enabling the use of lower-cost substrate materials), and line width can be reduced to 10 micrometers or less high conductivity.
